And then on the other hand there are only shortcuts. God is one big shortcut. That’s why the universe exists, because God wanted to take a long cut.
There is something called monomania. Jed McKenna talks about it, where your entire focus of your life, your mind, and your being uhhh. Bb on one thing. No expense, time, or thought is spared in the relentless pursuit of a single thing. In Jed’s case: Truth.
And this is understandable. Once you grasp the Truth (with a capital “T”) at whatever intellectual level you have, you naturally become obsessed. It solves *everything* intellectually and yet it seems to solve nothing when it comes to life.
And that’s true. Your intellectual understanding of ultimate truth, whatever that looks like for you, really does nothing for you. It’s like getting a brochure for Six Flags. Looking at a picture and riding a rollercoaster are two very, very different things.
Sure, you can sit around thinking about ‘ultimate truth’ and that’s cool (or, it would be if you could actually think about it, which you can’t, so what are you really sitting around thinking about after all?), but at the end of the day you can and must get on the horse of life and ride it. And it isn’t easy.
In fact, you might find, that this beautiful newfound intellectual understanding you have does something you weren’t expecting: it intensifies the horse. Life actually becomes more intense, and the ride is more stimulating and potentially overwhelming than before. That or it’s exactly the same. You also have more help than before, and a better framework to stand on, you just don’t know it until you get out there and live.
Either way, your problems are all still waiting for you in this video game of life you signed up for that is sitting there waiting for you to play it. Literally the most epic virtual reality you could think of or imagine is just sitting there waiting for you to use it.
You don’t have to, but on the other hand, you kinda do. You signed up for it. You chose to be here. It’s gonna poke at you if you don’t, and these pokes are actually a divine service.
Here’s a trick, a key: you know when you’re getting it right when there is nothing to lean on. When you’re doing everything you consider difficult at the same time, that’s when you’re really nailing it. That’s what leveling up feels like. Everything all at the same time.
So when life gives you challenges you clearly don’t have the ability to overcome, remember that’s when life is leveling you up. And it’s always leveling you up.
So go get out there, live life. Remember that in living life, you actually realize the Truth. Not the other way around.
